We are currently seeking applicants for our Summer Camp Educator position, a 9-week paid opportunity beginning in June 2026 to lead our educational summer camp program at the end of July. 

Students currently in college or graduating in the spring are encouraged to apply!

Position Description

This position involves developing and leading an educational summer camp for children ages 8-12 at West Overton Village and Museum (WOVM). The Educator will work collaboratively with senior staff at WOVM to create a fun and enriching camp curriculum that explores a variety of historical subjects, including 19th and early 20th century agriculture and industry. The Educator will create new hands-on activities, crafts, and/or games.

Primary Responsibilities 
  • Develop and lead a 5-day educational summer camp for children ages 8-12
  • Educate children about a variety of historical subjects
  • Create a positive, welcoming, and inclusive environment 
  • Gather and organize program materials
  • Assist with program promotion and evaluation
  • Carry out a variety of responsibilities during the week of camp, including but not limited to setting up materials, teaching lessons, overseeing lunch, and signing campers in and out.
  • Attend and provide updates at education staff meetings 
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • College degree, or degree in progress, in education, history, or related field
  • Sincere interest in working with children and families of diverse backgrounds; experience working with children preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently, and as part of a team
  • Excitement for learning about and sharing local history
  • Ability to move and lift 20 pounds, walk/stand for extended periods
  • Obtain clearances as prerequisite to hiring (child abuse, criminal record, and FBI fingerprint, paid for by WOVM)

  • Part time, temporary role
  • About 20 hours a week, from June 1 - August 4 (9 weeks)
  • Involves working weekdays and weekends. Candidate must be available Monday, July 27 - Friday, July 31, for camp.
  • $14 / hour
  • Eligible for discounts in Museum gift shop and on select program admission
