Holiday Homestead Open House and Vendor Market
December 7 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm EST
West Overton Village and Museums invites you to attend a free Homestead Holiday Open House and Market from 9-5pm on Saturday, December 7.
Guests can visit the 1838 Overholt Homestead, decorated for the holiday season and filled with live harp music. The Open House also includes a visit to the 1830s Summer Kitchen, where visitors can enjoy a free cup of warm spiced cider served over the open hearth, and fresh cookies. A traditional medieval wassail (spiced apple cider with wine) will also be available for purchase. The historic summer kitchen features a beehive-style cooking oven reminiscent of those used by industrialist Henry Clay Frick, who was born on the property in 1849. As they enjoy the site and grounds, California University carollers in period dress will get visitors in the Christmas spirit with popular songs.
Santa Claus will visit the Distillery Museum from 12-4pm, where children will have the opportunity to tell Jolly Old Saint Nicholas what they’d like for Christmas. DIY History activities in the museum will invite visitors to make reindeer food from cornmeal and string popcorn garlands for their Christmas tree. Visitors can also explore On the Home Front, a World War II exhibit which features the war’s impact on the communities around West Overton.
In the Overholt Room and in the museum, visitors can purchase holiday gifts and goodies from nearly 30 craft vendors. Check out our Facebook Event for info about vendors in the coming days.
